On February 20th, 1967, Duke Ellington’s 15–piece ensemble, featuring many of jazz’s all-time greats, played a two-hour special concert in Cambridge. One thousand three hundred people packed into the church, for the one-off show; which featured tap-dancing, and a lengthy drum solo. As well as Ellington at the keyboard, star players on the night included trumpet player Cat Anderson, saxophonist Johnny Hodges, drummer Rufus ‘Speedy’ Jones, and Esther Marrow on vocals.
