Dr Adrian Fortescue was Letchworth's first Roman Catholic priest and cousin of Charles Spooner. The artist, Minnie Dibdin Spooner, known as Dinah, was married to Charles Spooner. She was a close confidante of Fortescue and they often dined together at the Spooners' house while Charles was giving evening classes at Central School. Fortescue was also an artist, as well as a calligrapher, linguist and a hymnographer.
