On a shallow plinth, a miner stands in his work clothes holding over his left shoulder a pick, and in his right hand a bag, with a safety lamp hanging from his waist. The statue is mounted on a square pedestal.

Hand-carved in China to designs and maquette supplied by the Dinnington Old Boys Committee, all of whose members were involved.
