Selected from the Contemporary Art Society’s 1959 allocation, 'Determined Progression' demonstrates Heath’s interest in geometry, symmetry, proportion, mathematical systems and the physical laws that underpin the natural world, rather than that which is immediately ‘visible’. For Heath, the ‘problem’ of painting was ‘… to exercise some logical or objective control on its gradual evolution'.
