As First Secretary of the Embassy of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in London, and friend and admirer of the Czech artist Ota Janecek, Vanicek played a significant part in the organisation of Janecek’s large retrospective in the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff in 1984. The strong links forged between the Contemporary Art Society for Wales and the Czechoslovakian artistic community led to the donation of this work. The subject matter for this gentle abstraction is a plant without male or female sexual parts.
