This portrait was presented to David Mackay, Esq., JP, former Provost of Kilmarnock, on 22nd December 1903 by a large circle of friends, along with a service of silver plate from the members and officials of the Town Council, as a token of their esteem, and in recognition of his long and valued public services in many capacities in the best interests of the community of Kilmarnock.
