This painting was produced either by or after Benjamin van der Gucht in the 18th century. Garrick organised a Shakespeare celebration in Stratford in 1769. Events were planned on a large scale but the enormous crowds and the appalling weather defeated him. However, Garrick recouped his losses by staging a jubilee presentation at Drury Lane Theatre.
