On either side of this portrait of Daniel Hanbury are two of the plants that are closely associated with him. On one side is Ipomoea simulans, which Hanbury described, named and showed to be the source of the Tampico Jalap. On the other side is the Liquidambar orientale, which, after long investigation, Hanbury showed to be the plant yielding the liquid storax of commerce.
