Dacre Lennard Barrett, son of Sir Richard Lennard Barrett (1625–1696) and Anne Loftus (d.1659). Due to discrepancies with his father, Dacre spent most of his life in Ireland looking after his mother’s Irish estates. Sir Richard, who is known to have had a temper, did not come to terms with his children, including Dacre, by the end of his life. Dacre inherited the family’s main residence, Belhus, in Aveley, Essex, and the rest of their family estates. He held important political positions, for instance, Dacre became High Sheriff of Essex, in 1705 and then years later was made Deputy Lieutenant for Essex as well as Colonel of the Green Regiment of Foot of the Trained Bands. A member of the Royal Society, Dacre was a wealthy man who added 'three to four hundred acres of land' to the Belhus estate.
