This painting depicts the Rheims 12-hour race on 4 July 1954. It captures perfectly the characteristics of this famous French circuit. This was a maiden victory for the Jaguar D-type in only its second race. Drivers Peter Whitehead and Ken Wharton covered 1254 miles at an average speed of 105mph with two other D- and C- types completing a clean sweep of the podium at this event.
