David Owen Martin was a Glaswegian painter of landscapes and coastal views, especially in the Kingdom of Fife. He used both oil and watercolour and this large painting is said to be his finest oil. The painting was bequeathed to Crail Museum by a lady who had won it in an Art Union (Glasgow) raffle in 1897 when she was three or four years old. She had always treasured it.
