'Core Pink' addresses us primarily in terms of proportion and colour. A band of deep pink seems to hover in front of two bands of brown. Shiraishi's works can be thought of as developments of the 'hard-edge' strand of geometric abstraction, seen in the work of painters such as Barnett Newman and Ellsworth Kelly. There is a sharp division between the three colours, and although there is little sense of depth, Shiraishi plays with space by allowing the deep pink to seem to stand further forward.
