Michael Lennon studied at Gray's School of Art, where he gained a degree in painting, followed by Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, where he obtained an MA in Design. From about 1987 to 1997 he was Community Artist for the Community Arts Centre, a charity funded by Clackmannanshire District Council, in Alloa Town Hall. This work was undertaken as part of a project to record industrial skills in decline in Alloa. The Copper Stills lay for many years in the yard of Abercromby's foundry in Grange Road, Alloa.
