on the front plaque in raised lettering: THIS MONUMENT HAS BEEN ERECTED / AND DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF / THE UNDERNOTED GALLANT OFFICERS / NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEN / BELONGING TO COMBER AND DISTRICT / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR KING / AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1918; and attached to the front of the base in metal letters: COMBER & DISTRICT / WAR MEMORIAL.
