Late of the 71st Regiment of Foot, Colonel Henry le Blanque, or ‘Stumpy’ as he was known due to his having lost a leg during his service, was the Major at the Royal Hospital Chelsea from the end of the Peninsula War in 1814 to the mid-point of the Crimean War in 1855 and saw many veterans of these campaigns and Waterloo pass through the halls at Chelsea.
