In the foreground, on the sand, are baskets of fruit and fish, with some fish scattered on the ground. Behind these are three loaded donkeys, tied to posts near the seashore, with a dog nearby. In the middle ground, on a high outcrop of rock, is a man on a white horse, looking out to sea. Nest to him stands a man in a red cap, carrying some sort of pole on his shoulder. To the right of these figures is a small group of trees. Waves crash beneath the rock and seagulls wheel in the sky. Out to sea is a small sail boat; in the distance are cliffs on the far shore. Brilliant lightning flashes from the black clouds, illuminating the sky.
