A white Carrara marble statue, possibly from an Italian workshop, perhaps representing Clytemnestra. The statue is portrayed in the antique manner with classical dress which hangs over both shoulders, covers both arms and is drawn up on her left hand side. Her right arm is placed horizontally above her waist and within her exposed hand she holds a short dagger. Her left arm is raised by her left cheek, the fingers bent in to her face. Her head is tilted to her right and she appears deep in thought. Her hair is elaborately placed with sections hanging down onto either shoulder with a plait tied at the back and a plain diadem which peaks to the front. The dress beneath falls evenly to the floor with only the front of her right foot exposed. Raised on an English Ketton, possibly Silsoe, stone pedestal.
