An idealised classical Italianate landscape with a wooded hill in the distance to the right and Italian buildings surrounding its lower slopes. This falls to a calm lake in the centre left in which two figures are bathing at the water's edge. There is a flat open valley in the distance to the left through which can be seen another large lake surrounded by hills. Two peasants are in the right foreground, a seated man and standing woman with a small dog. There is a large tree in the left foreground.
