This is the portrait of Chrysogna Baker, Lady Dacre. She was the daughter of Sir Richard Baker of Sissenhurst, Kent.
Chrysogna married Sir Henry Lennard (1570–1616), 12th Lord Dacre. Henry and Chrysogna had seven children: Pembroke Lennard (d.1643), Philadelphia Parker, Fynes, Edward, Margaret, Barbara Stapleton (b.1604) and Richard Lennard (1596–1630), 13th Lord Dacre.
Chrysogna’s grandfather, John Baker (c.1489–1558) had been married to Elizabeth, widow of George Barrett of Belhus, Essex, establishing a new connection between the Barretts and the Lennards.
This painting has been preserved with its original frame.
