This was the centrepiece of the predella of the altarpiece of St Martin at Riglos, north of Huesca in Northern Spain. Another section was sold at Christie's in 1980 and the three remaining sections are in private collections in New York. The pinnacle, 'The Crucifixion' is in the National Gallery, London where it is attributed to the Master of Riglos. Christ stands in his tomb surrounded by the instruments of his torture and against a decorative background. Christ, though dead, stands straight. This is a common Spanish and North Italian theme, the triumph of Christ over death.
