It is one of a series of paintings that Eardley began in the early 1960s, depicting two children stood against a richly graffitied wall below her studio on St James Road in Townhead, Glasgow.
This series features the Samson children who posed willingly for Eardley in return for biscuits and sweets, with sweet wrappers often making their way into the paintings. The chalked wall behind is evidence of the girls' activities, becoming an extension of themselves and showing how they are inextricably linked to their environment.
