The twin-screw vessel the ‘Channel Queen’ owned by the Plymouth, Channel Islands and Brittany Steamship Company hit rocks as it neared Guernsey on a journey from Plymouth in rough seas and fog on 1 February 1898. Twenty people lost their lives; passengers and crew.
