The chair is from dismantled weapons which have been handed in since the peace agreement which was signed in 1992, ending a 16–year civil war in Mozambique. A scheme run by the Christian Council of Mozambique swaps guns for tools such as sewing machines and ploughs. The weapons are dismantled and handed over to local artists. The dismantled weapon parts used for the chair include: 21st pattern Russian AK47's; four 2nd pattern Russian AK 47's (with milled receiver); three Kalashnikov AKM's of which one, an East German MPiKM (back bracer) is used for the right leg of the chair and one Chinese type 56/1 is used for the left leg. Seven early pattern magazines and seven late pattern magazines have also been used in the chair's construction.
