'Calm Water' demonstrates Bet Low's preoccupation with paring down the elements of landscape to simple shapes and tones. While representing a vivid image of the moon reflecting in a dead calm sea, the slate gray and blue of the work presents a beguiling mood enhancing the impact of the work. Bet Low's paintings of the 1970s and 1980s developed the theme of Scotland's landscape represented in idealised form.
