Arthur Melville made six visits to Spain between 1890 and 1899. This is one of many paintings in which he captures the spirit of bullfighting – the 'corrida'. Almost half the paper is blank, representing the heat and light of the sand. 'Bullring Crowd' was the first object acquired by Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery.
