The artist Roger Kirkwood was one of the founding members of the Friends of Bruce Castle, the support group for the museum, archive and park at Bruce Castle in Tottenham. In 1995, the year of the Friends group's foundation, Roger donated this painting of Bruce Castle as part of a series of images to be reproduced as postcards and sold by the Friends of Bruce Castle for fundraising purposes.

The scene shows Bruce Castle snow-covered in winter. Those familiar with Bruce Castle will notice that Roger has deliberately chosen to show the Tudor Tower (on the left of the painting) with its door facing south. The 500-year-old ancient oak tree, to the right of the painting, is shown much closer to the main building than it actually is.
