Bawden was a prolific and multifaceted artist, working as a painter, printmaker, designer, illustrator, graphic artist and mural painter. In this large-scale linocut Bawden has framed Brighton’s pier with the pavilion on the left-hand side and a regency house on the right. As Bawden did not have a large press in his studio, this linocut would have been printed on the floor, using his (or friends’) feet.
