The sculpture, depicting a boy blowing a pipe at a goose in front of him with wings outstretched, was originally a fountain and drinking trough situated in Derby Market Place. It was moved to the Riverside Gardens in 1971 due to road changes. In 1976 it was repositioned in the new Assembly Rooms but was later moved to Sir Peter Hilton Memorial Garden. On the wall surrounding the garden where the sculpture is located, is a war memorial established by the British Korean Veterans Association to honour the servicemen from Derbyshire and East Staffordshire who fought in the Korean War between 1950 and 1953.
