Swiss husband and wife team Arnold (1843–1908) and Carolina (b.1856) Dodel-Port created this illustration for their 'Dodel-Port Atlas', an atlas of botany for school students. Both the Dodel-Ports were botanists (Arnold at the University of Zurich), and together they made many new discoveries about the plants they were studying. They wrote to Charles Darwin, who said that Carolina’s drawings showed information about plants in a 'wonderfully clear manner'. This wall chart comes from the book 'Atlas der Botanik', published in 1878, which includes many of the works we see at the Whipple Museum. Though it was a joint publication, some of the works were signed by one person. This work was signed by Arnold Dodel-Port.
