The picture depicts two women (the left figure shown with head bowed) wearing green dresses, standing in a pile of mutilated corpses. The women hold sacks and are collecting body parts. To the right in the middle distance is the figure of an advancing soldier and beside him a child with outstretched arms. Another small scale figure of a running soldier can be seen above the shoulder of the woman on the left.
