It is often forgotten that in addition to the justly well-known and evocative work of the Official War Artists of 1939–1945, there existed a small number of other artists working to record life in London before and during the Blitz. Among these was this artist who, together with his colleague William Hampton, was employed by the Ministry of Works on the conservation of works of art hanging in Government buildings.
