Bertram Louis Abrahams (1870–1908) had a successful career at University College and was later appointed to Westminster Hospital. He took a keen interest in the social welfare of his community and was a founder of the Jewish Lads’ Brigade. Abrahams was dogged by kidney trouble for years which persuaded him to seek a warmer climate in Egypt. However, the disease resulted in his death at the early age of 38. The Bertram Louis Abrahams Lectureship was established in his memory at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in 1941.

The portrait was produced by Solomon, a British Pre-Raphaelite painter, and presented to the RCP by the sitter’s daughter.
