Daintrey was trained at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and attended the classes of Tonks and Steer. Later he introduced himself to Augustus John and went frequently to Paris between 1924 and 1927. In 1936 Gerald Reitlinger bought this vivid painting directly from the artist.
