View along the deck of naval vessel HMS 'Devonshire' at sea, with a view of the funnels in the foreground to the right, there are men on deck at their gun posts to the left. A string of washing is suspended around the base of near most funnel in bottom right corner. A Supermarine Walrus Bi-plane with single motor has just been catapulted from the deck of the ship to carry out a reconaissance flight. When the painting was created in 1943 the HMS 'Devonshire' was in service as a troop carrier in the Mediterranean.
