Tracy Wakelin is a former student on the BA Hons Fine Art degree at SSU. She continues to work in Southampton as an independent artist. This work was donated by the artist. Tracy Wakelin has said of her practice: "I find painting to be an amalgamation of many subjects e.g.; sciences, history, architect, culture. Making art is not just about giving pleasure to the gaze, but for the purposes of history, story telling, politics, urban and rural civilisation, life progression or its deterioration. One artist I have been influenced by is Ian Davenport, he uses high gloss paint to reflect the passer-by and anything from the modern world that appears in front of the painting. His rejection, as is mine, of academic style painting is clearly emphasised from the absence of canvas and brush.
