This complex work deals with artistic identity and authenticity. Its title derives from Gavin Turk's incorporation of a recycled frame once used by Andy Warhol in 1978. It is one of several works by Turk that incorporates picture frames previously used by other artists. Turk's signature is inscribed into the glass, and beneath it is its ephemeral shadow. At bottom right is a third signature. All three signatures indicate his authorship, and constitute the work itself. Signatures bring artistic identity and value to a work of art, and this piece examines this relationship between object and maker. Ironically, as his own reputation has increased, Turk's signature works are now collectable precisely because they are 'Turks'.
