Design for a plate to J. C. Lavater’s, ‘Essays on Physiognomy’, translated by Henry Hunter, London, 1789–1798, vol.III.i., facing p.229. In the text Lavater calls this ‘a fashionable ideal form’. The attitude is that of ‘suspending judgement over a distinct object he attends to.’
