Set in the ground floor of an old house, with a tilestone floor and a wooden ceiling. Centre, an enormous old stone fireplace used as a furnace, with, on the floor in front of it, a flask containing an emerald-green liquid. Right, the alchemist sits in darkness, surrounded by scientific instruments. Centre background, a window with a view to a church beyond.
