This painting is of Alderman A. Barrow, OBE who was Mayor of Barrow-in-Furnace (1913–1919). The painting was presented to the sitter by Barrovians to mark their appreciation of his six years as Mayor. He was a solicitor and served as Mayor throughout World War I, as elections were suspended during the war. He also gave his name to the Alfred Barrow School (closed in 2009).
