Allison Katz's artistic practice explores the interplay between imagery, language, and materiality, delving into how aesthetic forms intertwine with autobiography, cultural symbols, and art history. Her diverse motifs – including cabbages, mouths, and architectural elements – recur across paintings, posters, ceramics, and installations, creating a network of evolving references. Katz frequently incorporates wordplay and double entendres, evident in her exhibition titles and artworks (such as her 2022 exhibition, Artery, at Camden Art Centre), to challenge perceptions and highlight the fluidity of meaning. By integrating textures such as sand or rice into her pigments, she disrupts the traditional picture plane, engaging viewers as active participants.
