Aeneas Silvius is made Cardinal by Callistus III; foreground, a Pope, wearing a mitre and seated upon a throne, ordains a kneeling Aeneas Silvius with a Cardinal hat, figures in Renaissance costume watch the ceremony, in the centre is an ornate altar-piece with a painting of a Madonna and child with two saints; middleground, a large crowd wearing various hats some with feather plumes; background, the interior walls of a church featuring two arch windows and a coffered ceiling with a suspended ornate canopy. Engraved with fine lines. Surrounding trompe-l\'oeil effect of an arch has been omitted. Latin inscription
