In the middle, the Virgin reclines watching the Child who lies in a basket-work crib before her; at her feet kneels an angel while one shepherd looks over her right shoulder; to the right a shepherd approaches with his dog while behind him another feeds the ox and ass from a manger; to the left a shepherd kneels at the head of the crib while another stands behind him.
