The old wooden bridge (demolished in 1863) can be seen on the right as can the old Horse Barracks at Foyle Road on the west bank river edge. This was probably abandoned when Ebrington Barracks was built in 1839. The white buildings can be seen on the horizon behind the Gasworks chimney. Below the spire of the Cathedral on the left can be seen the Gaol in Bishop Street without-the-walls. The Gaol opened in August 1824.
