An oil painting on wood depicting a three-masted ship at sea with an ensign. This is one of a series of at least 16 painted wall panels found in Skilton’s and Isard’s shop, Bromley Market Square, dated to about 1710–1750. They were covered in dark brown varnish which obliterated all trace of the paintings and were cleaned up (conserved) to reveal the impressive paintings underneath. The building was known as the 'Queens Head' in 1717 and 'The Bull' in 1743. They are reminiscent of stage ‘scene paintings’ and many of them were based on prints.
