Presiding over this scene of diplomacy is an imperial portrait, perhaps of the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna of Russia. While the artist is close to the Maestro del Ridotto, a follower of Longhi whose work is characterised by thin, elongated figures and an uncertain grasp of perspective, this painting is of better quality.
