A medieval carved male figure from Newport Pagnell Church. The description of this carved figure as coming from Newport Pagnell church comes from the 1837 inventories of the museum. Newport Pagnell is in Buckinghamshire and very near Tyringham, where Soane worked in the 1790s, building Tyringham Hall for William Praed. The only church in Newport Pagnell from which this figure might have come is the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul which underwent a 'great restoration' in 1827, in Soane's lifetime, during which the south aisle was rebuilt. It is possible that this figure might have been removed at that time. The church was noted for the splendid length of the nave and its timber roof.
