Situated by the River Ellen near to the harbour, Colin Telfer’s ‘A Fishy Tale’ is a charming commemoration of Maryport’s fishing heritage. The figures, two men and a boy, poise in contemplation over a basket of fish, a dog sat patiently next to them in an animated representation of nostalgia for a traditional fisherman’s life. The rusty-red colouring of the sculpture catches viewers' eyes across the water and sits in complimentary contrast to the luscious green of the grass further down the river, creating a picturesque scene outside Maryport Maritime museum.
