This work was originally commissioned by the 4th Duke of Atholl as part of a collection of 56 drawings. A description added in 1870 indicates this is a distant view of Stirling and Stirling Castle with Alloa in the foreground, from the left side of Shawpark Estate. The wooded Ochills are on the right, New Sauchie is in the valley out of sight, above and to the right of Alloa.
