Virginia Selby, who was immortalised by Munnings as the girl in pink on the grey horse in this painting recently recounted, 'I don't remember this painting being done. I think it is a kind of artistic license. A kind of combination .' It is this inspirational artistic license taken from the place and occasion which was the product of all his sketches, studies and experiments.
