Alexandre Zeitlin [also known as Alexander Zeitlin] was born into a Jewish family in Tiflis, Russian Empire [now Tbilisi, Georgia] on 15 July 1872. He studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna and then under Alexandre Falquiere (1831-1900) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He subsequently lived in Paris many years before moving to the USA in 1915 and settled in New York City. Prior to moving to the USA, Zeitlin exhibited at the Paris Salon. He also exhibited in Britain at the New Gallery in London; Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; Royal Birmingham Society of Artists; and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Following his move to the USA he exhibited at the Salons of America; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; and Society of Independent Artists.
